No. 15 CSUSM Earns Series Split With CSUMB
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 15 Cal State San Marcos softball team (24-7, 10-6 CCAA) earned a series split with Cal State Monterey Bay (16-15, 8-12 CCAA) on Saturday at CSUSM Softball Field. After falling 5-4 in game one, the Cougars rallied back with a 6-5 walk-off win in the series finale.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUSM wasted no time getting on the board, taking a 1-0 lead. Makenzie Guiliano laid down a leadoff bunt single before advancing to third on a CSUMB throwing error and scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Madison Waymire.
- The Otters took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third on a 2-RBI single by Malia Martin.
- The Cougars retook the lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Jillian Albayati before Paige Donnelly stole home to make it 3-2 CSUSM.
- Another sacrifice fly by Waymire extended CSUSM's lead to 4-2 in the fourth.
- Monterey Bay capitalized on two CSUSM errors to push two runs across in the top of the sixth to take a 5-4 lead.

- Otter relief pitcher Kaitlyn Le (4-3) collected the win after 3.1 innings of work, allowing one unearned run on three hits and one walk.
- CSUSM pitcher Savannah Coyle (7-2) took the loss after going 4.1 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out five.
- Jillian Albayati extended her hit streak to a team-best 11 games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Once again, the Cougars took an early lead. Madison Waymire hit a one-out single up the middle, advanced to second on a Paige Donnelly groundout and scored on Jillian Albayati's RBI single up the middle.
- The Cougars notched another run in the second on a Brooklyn Ury bunt single that scored Mackenzie Kestler to make it 2-0 CSUSM.
- The Otters took a 4-2 lead in the top of the fourth on RBI singles by Malia Martin and Emma Mendoza as well as a 2-RBI double by Ally Alcayaga.
- Monterey Bay added another run in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Abreanna Alba to make it 5-2.
- CSUSM rallied in the seventh on Donnelly's 2-RBI single and Kestler's RBI single before Czar Fleischman recorded a walk-off win on a CSUMB error.

- CSUSM's pitcher Jayline Sloss (9-3) recorded the win in relief, tossing 3.0 innings and allowing just one run on two hits and a walk while striking out three.
- Otter pitcher Kadence Nulick (2-8) took the loss after 0.2 innings of relief, giving up three runs (one earned) on three hits and one walk.
- This was the second walk-off win this week for the Cougars as they notched a doubleheader sweep on Wednesday after Jillian Albayati knocked out an RBI single in the ninth inning of the nightcap against Pace.
- Albayati moved her hit streak to 12 games, the longest by a Cougar this season.
