CSUSM Falls in Three at No. 19 SF State

SAN FRANCISCO – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team (8-16, 6-11 CCAA) saw its four-match win streak come to an end with a three-set loss (20-25, 8-25, 16-25) at No. 19 San Francisco State (21-4, 15-2 CCAA) on Thursday evening at The Swamp.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Cougars battled in the first set, staying with the Gators until the 18-17 mark that sparked a SF State 5-0 run that led to a 25-20 victory.
  • The second set was all SF State as the Gators hit .417 (11k, 1e, 24ta) to cruise to a 25-8 win to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
  • The Cougars went up 7-4 on a block by Bakken and Zaitz in the third set, but the Gators responded with a 17-5 run before snagging a 25-16 victory to complete the sweep.
     

QUICK HITS

  • Bakken hit above .300 for the third consecutive match, finishing the night with a .303 clip after posting .412 against Cal State LA and .625 against Cal State Dominguez Hills.
  • The Cougars' four-match win streak was the longest this season and longest since their five-match streak last season that began with a five-set victory over then-No. 17 Cal Poly Pomona.
  • The Gators are now 11-3 in the all-time series against the Cougars.
