SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 18 Cal State San Marcos softball team (29-10, 15-9 CCAA) completed its second four-game CCAA series sweep of the season, taking both games from Chico State (19-19, 11-17 CCAA) on Saturday by scores of 8-0 (6 inn.) and 8-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUSM took a 2-0 lead in the opening inning, scoring on a fielder's choice and a groundout after Madison Waymire reached on an error and Jillian Albayati knocked out a double to right field.
- The Cougars put up four runs in the bottom of the third, scoring on a Chico error, an RBI double by pinch hitter Dahlia Fink, an RBI double by Gianna Lombardi and an RBI single by Czar Fleischman to make it 6-0.
- CSUSM ended the game with the run-rule after a sacrifice fly by Madilyn Novello and a Chico error in the sixth that made it 8-0.
QUICK HITS
- CSUSM pitcher Jayline Sloss (12-4) recorded her second shutout of the series, allowing only three hits and one walk while striking out three.
- Wildcat pitcher Bella Tavares (6-4) took the loss after giving up six runs (four earned) on seven hits.
- This was CSUSM's third consecutive shutout, a program first in the NCAA Division II era (2015-present).
- Jillian Albayati registered her team-leading 13th multi-hit game while Paige Donnelly collected her 12th, moving her into second on the team.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After drawing two walks, Chico State's Marissa Anderson hit a three-run homer to left to score the Wildcats' first runs of the series in the first inning.
- The Cougars answered with an RBI single to left by Delaney Prater to make it 3-1 in the bottom of the first.
- The Wildcats made it 5-2 in the second on a CSUSM error and a bases-loaded walk.
- CSUSM pushed another run across in the bottom of the second on Marissa Morales' RBI single to center field to cut the Chico State lead to 5-3.
- After a scoreless third, Chico added another run in the fourth on a Hannah Levy RBI double down the right line to extend its lead to 6-3.
- The Cougars took their first lead of the game with five runs on five hits and four Wildcat errors in the bottom of the fourth. With two of the runs coming off Wildcat errors, the bottom of the frame was highlighted by a Gianna Lombardi RBI single and Aneesa Arredondo's double up the middle that allowed Makenzie Guiliano to score to make it 7-6.
- In the fifth, the Cougars pushed an insurance run across that they ended up needing as Marissa Morales was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, stole second and scored on Jillian Albayati's RBI single up the middle to raise CSUSM's lead to 8-6.
- Chico scored one more run in the sixth on an Anderson RBI double to right center before CSUSM reliever Savannah Coyle got the next two batters to strike out to end the rally.
- The Wildcats attempted another rally in the seventh with a two-out single by Kennedy Gustin before Coyle ended it with her fourth strikeout of the game.

- CSUSM's pitcher Savannah Coyle (9-4) earned the win in relief after going 4.0 innings, allowing only one run on four hits and two walks.
- Wildcat pitcher Della Tavares (6-5) picked up her second loss of the day after 2.0 innings in the circle, giving up five unearned runs on seven hits and one walk.
- This was CSUSM's second conference series sweep of the season with the first one coming in the CCAA opening weekend against Stanislaus State.
- This was CSUSM's second consecutive series sweep over the Wildcats as it recorded the feat in Chico last year.
- The Cougars improved to 20-13 in the all-time series against Chico State and are now 8-6 when playing at CSUSM Softball Field.
