CSUSM Drops Series Finale at SF State, 3-1
SAN FRANCISCO – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (11-12, 6-8 CCAA) dropped its series finale at San Francisco State (15-13, 11-9 CCAA) by a score of 3-1 on Sunday at Maloney Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUSM jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a two-out RBI single to short by Mateo Lake in the top of the first as Phoenix Sommy scored after getting on with a leadoff walk.
- SF State knotted the game at 1-all in the bottom of the first with an RBI single to left center by Nicholas Allred.
- An RBI groundout by Kyle Olimpia put the Gators up 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth.
- With the bases full of Cougars and one out in the top of the eighth, SF State induced a 6-3 double play to end the CSUSM threat.
- The Gators went up 3-1 in the bottom of the eighth with a two-out solo shot by Justin Johnson to left.
- CSUSM got a one-out single up the middle by Cameron Mahaffy in the top of the ninth, but a flyout and a fielder's choice ended the game.
QUICK HITS
- With his second strikeout of the game, CSUSM reliever Nolan Long became the program's new career strikeouts leader at 174, surpassing Garrett Apker's record of 173 for the top spot. Long ended the day with 176 for his career.
- Gator starter River Diaz De Leon (1-0) earned the win after allowing just a hit-by-pitch with two-thirds of an inning while Nick Bacura earned the save as he just allowed one hit in an inning of work.
- Cougar starter Zach Coleman (1-4) took the loss after allowing two earned runs on three hits, two walks and a hit-by-pitch while striking out four in 4.2 innings.
- CSUSM hit into a season-high three double plays.
- Sommay extended his reached-base streak to 11 games, tying for the longest by a Cougar this season.
