CSUSM Sweeps Doubleheader Against Sonoma to Take Series Lead
ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (15-15, 10-11 CCAA) swept its doubleheader at Sonoma State (9-26, 6-21 CCAA) with scores of 4-2 and 4-0 to take the series lead on Saturday at Seawolf Diamond.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Seawolves took a 2-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI groundout to second by Evan Merz and a Cougar error that scored Garret Barto.
- Victor Castaneda put CSUSM on the board with an RBI triple in the top of the third as Fisher Pyatt scored to make it a 2-1 game.
- A Mateo Lake solo shot tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fourth.
- The Cougars went up 3-2 in the top of the fifth with an RBI single up the middle by Phoenix Sommay to score Hayden Tregida.
- Tregidga added some insurance in the top of the ninth with a solo homer to give CSUSM a 4-2 lead.
- Nolan Long closed out the game and earned his fifth save of the year with one strikeout and nothing allowed in 1.2 innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Scoreless entering the fifth inning, CSUSM changed that with a bases-loaded walk by Trey Becker, an RBI fielder's choice by Garrett Teunnissen that scored Cameron Mahaffy and an error than allowed Phoenix Sommay to score and make it a 3-0 game.
- Zavien Watson tacked on one more run in the top of the seventh with an RBI single to left, scoring Becker and giving the Cougars a 4-0 lead.
QUICK HITS
- CSUSM starter Jordan Townley (3-3) earned the win as he threw a seven-inning, complete-game shutout while striking out four and allowing just four walks and two hits. This was his second complete game of the season.
- SSU starter Michael Panichi (2-5) took the loss after allowing three earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out five in 4.2 innings.
