Cougars Split Doubleheader in Inaugural Games at Dennis A. Pugh Baseball Field
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (18-16, 13-12 CCAA) began the Dennis A. Pugh Baseball Field era with an 8-5 win against Cal State East Bay (16-21, 12-15 CCAA) before falling 17-1 in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.
Prior to the game, CSUSM Baseball Field officially became Dennis A. Pugh Field in a naming ceremony.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUSM got out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a solo homer from Victor Castaneda, his second of the season.
- CSUEB tied the game in the top of the second after a misplayed ball in right field allowed Luke Brown to score.
- The Cougars took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the second with an RBI single from Jake Adams, who then scored on an error before an RBI groundout from Garrett Teunissen.
- A sacrifice fly by Marco Pirruccello put CSUSM up 5-1 in the bottom of the third.
- Pirruccello tacked on his second RBI of the game with an infield RBI single before a two-run double down the left field line from Fisher Pyatt, giving the Cougars an 8-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
- A three-run triple from Jaylen Hodges made it an 8-4 game in the top of the sixth before the Pioneers plated the game's final run in the top of the ninth on an bases-loaded walk from Danelle Daniels.

- CSUSM starter Jordan Townley (4-3) picked up the win after striking out four and allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits, three walks and a hit-by-pitch in 5.1 innings.
