SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team (5-7-3, 4-4-0 CCAA) earned a huge three points with a 1-0 win against (RV) Cal Poly Pomona (7-4-5, 2-3-3 CCAA) on Friday afternoon at The Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Scoreless after 45 minutes, CSUSM led the half in shots (6-5), shots on goal (4-1) and corner kicks (4-1).
• The momentum of the game flipped in the 64th minute. Dribbling against two defenders into the left side of the box, Efren Nunez Dominguez made a pass to his right to Jesua Espinoza Castillo, who put a shot into the right corner of the goal from 10 yards out to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
• CSUSM's defense kept CPP at bay for the remainder of the game as the Broncos were unable to put a shot on goal.

• The Cougars' victory was their first against the Broncos since their inaugural meeting in 2006, both coming at home.
• The win gave CSUSM 12 points in the CCAA standings.
• Espinoza Castillo's goal was the first of his career while Nunez Dominguez's assist was his third of the season.
• Tony Flores notched his third shutout of the season in goal while making five saves.
• CSUSM ended the game with the edge in shots (14-9), shots on goal (6-5) and corner kicks (6-2).
• The Cougars had possession for 54% of the match. Of its possessions, it controlled the game in Bronco territory 65% of the time.
• This was CSUSM's first win against a team receiving votes or ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll since defeating No. 25 Fresno Pacific on Sept. 5, 2019.
