CSUSM Falls in 11 Innings to CSUDH
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (5-4, 1-3 CCAA) lost a heartbreaker in 11 innings as it fell 9-8 to Cal State Dominguez Hills (7-6, 3-1 CCAA) in Sunday's series finale at CSUSM Baseball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the first, Marco Pirruccello hit an RBI groundout to first as Phoenix Sommay scored to make it 1-0 for the Cougars.
- The Toros evened the game at 1-1 in the top of the second as Kaleb Castro hit an RBI single through the left side before a double play and groundout ended the frame.
- CSUSM struck for four runs in the bottom of the third on a two-run single to center by Pirruccello, a failed pickoff attempt to first that allowed Ethan Rivera to score from second and an RBI single down the right field line by Dylan Unangst to make it 5-1.
- A sacrifice fly to right by Castro cut the Toros' deficit to 5-2 in the top of the fourth.
- The Cougars went up 7-2 in the bottom of the fourth as Sommay scored on a sacrifice bunt that turned into a fielder's choice by Cameron Mahaffy before Rivera hit an RBI single to score Hayden Tregidga from second.
- CSUDH made it a one-run game in the top of the fifth. Following an RBI single to left by Quinn Johnson, Dylan Schumacher hit a three-run homer to right to make it 7-6.
- On what should have been the third out, a Cougar fielding error allowed Jared Anderson to score from third and knotted the game at 7-all in the top of the sixth.
- The Toros went up 8-7 in the top of the eighth on a bases-loaded RBI single from Quinn Johnson.
- Pinch hitting with one out in the bottom of the ninth, Mateo Lake blasted a 2-2 pitch to right and knotted the game at 8-8 with his first homer of the season.
- In the top of the 11th with runners on second and third, a balk scored Teague Barrett and gave the Toros a 9-8 lead.
- The Cougars had no answer in the bottom of the 11th as a strikeout and two groundouts ended the game.

- Toro reliever Chris Cornelius (1-1) earned the win after striking out three while allowing a hit and a run in 2.2 innings.
- Cougar reliever Nate Brouse (0-1) took the loss after giving up a run on two hits while striking out two in 2.0 innings.
