CSUSM Drops Another Five-Set Heartbreaker

TURLOCK, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team (4-15, 2-10 CCAA) dropped its second consecutive five-set match (25-21, 22-25, 29-27, 13-25, 6-15) in as many days at Stanislaus State (14-6, 7-5 CCAA) on Saturday afternoon in Fitzpatrick Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • CSUSM started the day strong recording a 25-21 opening-set victory behind a .407 attack percentage (13k, 2e, 27ta).
  • In the second set, the Cougars jumped out to a 10-6 lead before the Warriors charged back to even the match at 14-all. The teams traded leads until a 6-0 run put Stan State up 24-18, prompting CSUSM to waive off three set points before the Warriors took it at 25-22.
  • The third set was a true battle, going to extra points that ended at 29-27 on a block by Jessica Thomas and Kelli Miechowicz to put CSUSM up 2-1.
  • The Warriors led wire-to-wire in the fourth set, forcing a fifth set with a 25-13 victory.
  • The fifth set stayed close until the 5-all point when Stan State went on a 10-1 run to take the match with a 15-6 win.
     

QUICK HITS

  • The Cougars won the battle of blocks at 14-12 while Stan State tallied seven solo blocks to CSUSM's two.
  • Stan State's Ellison Weaver led all players with 22 kills while Gabby Rawson finished with a match-high 33 digs.
  • CSUSM continues to lead the all-time series over Stan State at 9-5 and is now 4-3 when playing in Fitzpatrick Arena.
