No. 7 CSUSM Open 2025 at LA Spring Kickoff

SAN MARCOS, Calif. –  The No. 7 Cal State San Marcos women's golf team will begin the spring season at the LA Spring Kickoff on Feb. 3-4 at the Rio Hondo Golf Club in Downy, California. 


LAST TIME OUT

  • CSUSM took first place at the HPU Sharks Shootout with a 5-under 283. 
  • Madison Murr claimed her second consecutive individual medalist honor after carding a 6-under 138. 
  • Murr also captured her third consecutive CCAA Golfer of the Week honor, the 10th of her career.

      LA SPRING KICKOFF

      • Due to persistent and heavy rains last February, the Golden Eagles were unable to host their first-ever home tournament. 
      • The Cougars enter the tournament with two tournament victories and a runner-up finish this past fall. 
      • CSUSM is the only team competing in the tournament that is ranked in the top 25 according to Scoreboard powered by Clippd ranking. CSULA, who is ranked No. 29, finished in the top 10 in all four of its fall tournaments and claimed runner-up honors in the Golden Eagles' fall season opener at Swan Memorial Tournament in Colorado. 

      COUGAR OUTLOOK

      • For the second consecutive year, the squad added two new Cougars in the lineup — freshmen Faith Hamstreet and Abby Sickles
      • The Cougars won their fifth consecutive CCAA Championship title in 2024, defeating second-place Cal State Monterey Bay by 27 strokes. 
      • Regan Barton become CSUSM's fourth CCAA Champion, recording a 2-under 214 at the Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club. 
      • After a fifth-place finish in the NCAA West Regional, CSUSM made its third appearance in the NCAA National Championships, finishing 12th in stroke play. 


      THE HUTTON FILE

      • Head coach Greg Hutton has been at the helm of the men's program since the 2010-11 season and was named the women's head coach in 2014.
      • Hutton has been named CCAA Coach of the Year a total of seven times – six times on the women's side and one time on the men's side. 
      • The CSUSM women's team was the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship runner-up, led by National Champion Jaime Jacob.
      • CSUSM men's golfer Matt Pennington was the program's first-ever CCAA Champion and NCAA West/South Central Regional Champion in 2022. 
      • Under Hutton's leadership, the women's team won CSUSM's first CCAA Championship in school history in 2018 and the Cougars defended their title in 2019, 2022, 2023 and 2024. 
      • In 2023, the CSUSM men's team captured its first-ever CCAA Championship Tournament Title, defeating runner-up Cal State Monterey by one stroke on April 19 at the Victory Club in Riverside. 
      • In CSUSM's first year of being a full-fledged NCAA Division II member in 2017-18, the Cougar men's and women's golf teams each qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships.
