Cougars Earns WBCA Academic Recognition

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team earned a special mention on the 2024-25 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll. The Cougars posted a 3.628 cumulative team GPA this past season, the second highest in the CCAA.

The WBCA Academic Top 25 annually honors women's basketball programs across all divisions that achieve the highest combined GPAs, inclusive of every student-athlete on their rosters. The 2024–25 season marks the 30th year the WBCA has compiled the honor roll.

CSUSM, led by first-year head coach Jana Pearson, was one of just 119 programs recognized across the NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and two-year college. Programs earning at least a 3.0 GPA and considered for Top 25 placement receive special mention distinction.

"I'm so proud of how hard these young women work on the court and in the classroom," said Pearson. "This recognition is a direct result of that dedication to be both students and athletes!"

Cal State East Bay received a 13th ranking in NCAA Division II with a 3.76 GPA. Three other CCAA schools joined CSUSM on the special mention list: Cal Poly Pomona (3.542), Cal State Monterey Bay (3.316) and Cal State San Bernardino (3.249).

"The WBCA is pleased to recognize those women's basketball programs that have committed themselves to excellence on the court and in the classroom," said Danielle Donehew, WBCA Executive Director. "The 119 teams we honor this year strive to achieve all-around success and we commend their efforts. Congratulations!"
