SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's golf team will begin its spring season this week with its own CSUSM Fujikura Invitational on Monday, Feb. 10 and Tuesday, Feb. 11 at Shadowridge Golf Club in Vista.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Cougars concluded the fall season with a share of sixth place at the Hawaii Pacific Sharks Shootout on Oct. 26.
- Gavin McCormick, Patrick Jaksch and Jason McElroy tied with three other golfers for 35th with a 2-over 142.

CSUSM FUJIKURA INVITATIONAL
- The Cougars took fifth place at the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational last season.
- For the third consecutive year, Greg Mouser shared runner-up honors, this time with a 7-under 209.
- CSUSM has hosted a spring invitational every season since the program began in 1999-2000 (excluding the 2020-21 season which was canceled due to COVID-19).
- Fujikura became a sponsor of the men's tournament in 2016.
- The inaugural tournament in 2000 was played at Vista Valley Country Club before being moved to San Luis Rey Downs Golf and Country Club in Bonsall.
- The tournament moved to Shadowridge Golf Club in 2012.
COUGAR OUTLOOK
- With nine returners from the 2023-24 team, this year's squad has only one new face with the addition of Owen Otto.
- The 2023-24 team finished in the top 5 in seven of its 11 tournaments last year.
- The Cougars saw last season come to an end with a 16th-place finish in the NCAA West/South Central Regional Championship.
THE HUTTON FILE
- Head coach Greg Hutton has been at the helm of the men's program since the 2010-11 season and was named the women's head coach in 2014.
- Hutton has been named CCAA Coach of the Year a total of seven times, six times on the women's side and one time on the men's side.
- The CSUSM men's golfer Matt Pennington was the program's first-ever CCAA Champion and NCAA West/South Central Regional Champion in 2022.
- The CSUSM women's team was the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship runner-up, led by National Champion Jaime Jacob.
- In 2023, the CSUSM men's team captured its first-ever CCAA Championship Tournament Title, defeating runner-up Cal State Monterey by one stroke on April 19 at the Victory Club in Riverside.
- Under Hutton's leadership, the women's team won CSUSM's first CCAA Championship in school history in 2018 and the Cougars defended their title in 2019, 2022, 2023 and 2024.
- In CSUSM's first year of being a full-fledged NCAA Division II member in 2017-18, the Cougar men's and women's golf teams each qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships.
