SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (4-1) dropped a 9-7 decision to visiting Colorado School of Mines (2-3) on Thursday afternoon at CSUSM Baseball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Orediggers put up six runs on four hits that included a solo home run by Alex Dunagan, and a CSUSM error in the opening frame.
- In the bottom of the first, Phoenix Sommay led off with a double to right center and advanced on a wild pitch before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Garrett Teunissen to make it 6-1 Mines.
- The Cougars added another run in the bottom of the third on an RBI groundout by Teunissen.
- The Orediggers pushed two more runs across in the top of the fifth to make it 8-2. After Tyler Pina scored on a Jackson Babcock groundout, Canon Humphreys connected on an RBI single through the left side.
- The Cougars added two runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth on a Nico Vallarelli RBI single to right field and a wild pitch that plated Hayden Tregidga to make it 8-4 Mines.
- Mines notched its final run in the top of the seventh on a Humphreys RBI double to left center to extend the Orediggers' lead to 9-4.
- Teunissen plated CSUSM's fifth run of the game in the bottom of the seventh, taking advantage of a Mines error.
- The Cougars attempted a rally in the bottom of the seventh when Tregidga crushed a one-out 2-run homer just inside the left field foul pole to cut Mines lead to 9-7, but a flyout and a fielder's choice ended the game.
QUICK HITS
- Phoenix Sommay extended his program-record reached-base streak to 47 games.
- CSUSM starting pitcher Jordan Townley (0-1) took the loss after allowing six runs (five earned) on three hits, two walks and one hit-by-pitch in a third of an inning.
- Mines starter Alex Honeyman (1-1) earned the win after allowing four runs on four hits and two walks in 5.2 innings.
- CSUSM is now 2-6 in the all-time series against the Orediggers.
- Tregidga collected his team-leading third home run of the season.
