CSUSM Ends Season with 8-7 Loss to SF State at CCAA Tournament
LOS ANGELES – The sixth-seeded Cal State San Marcos baseball team (25-23) saw its 2025 season come to an end with an 8-7 loss to third-seeded (RV) San Francisco State (31-19) in an elimination game to open the CCAA Tournament on Wednesday at Reeder Field on the campus of Cal State LA.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Gators took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a solo shot from Daniel Murillo to right center before a two-run homer to left by Justin Johnson.
- After a Phoenix Sommay double to left center, Marco Pirruccello brought him home with an RBI single to center and cut CSUSM's deficit to 3-1 in the top of the third.
- SF State went up 6-1 in the bottom of the third as Murillo scored on a CSUSM error before an RBI triple from Nick Allred and an RBI single from Derek LaFerriere.
- CSUSM put a four-spot on the board in the top of the sixth with a sacrifice fly from Trey Becker, an RBI single through the left side from Fisher Pyatt and a two-run single up the middle from Sommay to trim SF State's lead to 6-5.
- The Cougars knotted the game at 6-all in the top of the seventh with a two-out RBI single down the left field line by Ethan Rivera to score Becker from second.
- A sacrifice fly to center by Murillo and an RBI single from Michael Cunningham in the bottom of the eighth gave the Gators an 8-6 lead.
- With two on and one out in the top of the ninth, Victor Castaneda hit a pinch-hit RBI single through the left side to score Pirruccello and make it 8-7. After a strikeout and a walk by Rivera to load the bases, a lineout to left ended the game.

- SF State reliever Nick Bacura (4-0) earned the win after striking out six while allowing two earned runs on six hits in 3.2 innings.
- CSUSM reliever Nolan Long (3-1) took the loss after allowing an earned run on six hits while striking out three in 4.1 innings.
- CSUSM tied its season high for doubles with five.
- Sommay posted his team-leading 16th multi-hit game and tied for the team lead with his ninth multi-RBI game.
- Sommay and Pirruccello each extended their reached-base streak to a team-best 12 games.
- This was CSUSM's second consecutive CCAA Tournament appearance.
