SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 10 Cal State San Marcos women's golf team will travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for the Nick Turner Invitational on Monday, Oct. 16 and Tuesday, Oct. 17.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Cougars captured first place at the Sonoma State Invitational with a 10-stroke cushion, finishing with a 9-over 585.
- Madison Murr dominated the field in the second round, carding a 4-under 68 to claim individual medalist honors with a 5-under 139 (71-68).
- Murr captured her fourth career CCAA Golfer of the Week honor (see below).

NICK TURNER INVITE DEBUT
- This is CSUSM's second consecutive time competing in the Nick Turner Invitational.
- In 2022, CSUSM placed second behind St. Mary's (Texas) with a 23-over 599.
- Former Cougar Caroline Wales concluded 36 holes tied with University of Arkansas-Fort Smith's Sydney Williams with a 1-over 145, but eventually lost the five-hole playoff for the trophy.
- The tournament is being hosted by Fort Lewis (Colo.) but being played in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
- This marks the third consecutive year that Fort Lewis has hosted at Arroyo del Oso Golf Course.
COUGAR OUTLOOK
- This year's squad will feature two new Cougars in the lineup — freshmen Chloe Rahn and Maddie Reed.
- The Cougars won their fourth consecutive CCAA Championship title in 2023, defeating second-place Cal State Monterey Bay by six strokes.
- After a third-place finish in the NCAA West Regional, CSUSM made its second appearance in the NCAA National Championships, finishing ninth in stroke play.
THE HUTTON FILE
- Head coach Greg Hutton has been at the helm of the men's program since the 2010-11 season and was named the women's head coach in 2014.
- The CSUSM women's team was the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship runner-up, led by National Champion Jaime Jacob.
- The CSUSM men's golfer Matt Pennington was the program's first-ever CCAA Champion and NCAA West/South Central Regional Champion in 2022.
- In 2023, the CSUSM men's team captured its first-ever CCAA Championship Tournament Title, defeating runner-up Cal State Monterey by one stroke on April 19 at the Victory Club in Riverside.
- Under Hutton's leadership, the women's team won CSUSM's first CCAA Championship in school history in 2018 and the Cougars defended their title in 2019, 2022 and 2023.
- In CSUSM's first year of being a full-fledged NCAA Division II member in 2017-18, the Cougar men's and women's golf teams each qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships.
