Cougars Head to Nevada to Begin Indoor Season

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's track & field team will begin its indoor season at the University of Nevada's Silver State Invitational & Multis taking place Thursday through Saturday at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in Reno, Nevada.
 
LAST INDOOR SEASON

  • The Cougars had two NCAA provisionals last season in returner Rasha Badrani and outgoing Charlotte Allison.
  • Badrani ranked 47th nationally in the 400-meter run with a converted time of 56.06, setting a school record. She also held the school record in the 200-meter dash at a converted time of 24.97.
  • Allison was 43rd in the high jump at 1.67 meters.
  • As a team, CSUSM ended the season with 24 top-10 program marks and three school records.

SILVER STATE INVITATIONAL & MULTIS

  • This will be CSUSM's first time competing at Nevada's indoor venue.
  • The entirety of the women's pentathlon will occur on Thursday beginning at 10:30 a.m.
  • Invitational action will begin at 10 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday.
  • Twelve Cougars will go to Reno, including indoor returners Jordyn Brooks, Lauren Meredith and Shaylee Mutka.
  • Andrea Alvarado, Kylie Atteberry, Ryan Basnight, Simone Cable, Taylor Cartwright, Ashlyn Holson, Aliyah Ratcliffe, Autumn Shomaker and Emma Steele will make their indoor debuts.
  • The meet is comprised of western Division I and II schools: Academy of Art, Azusa Pacific, Boise State, Cal Poly Humboldt, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State Fullerton, Fresno State, Jessup, Nevada, Northwest Nazarene, Oregon State, Saint Mary's, San Francisco, San Jose State, Sonoma State, Stanislaus State, UC Davis, Western Oregon and Western Washington.

THE OLSON FILE

  • Head coach Torrey Olson begins his seventh season at the helm of the men's and women's track & field programs after taking over in the summer of 2018.
  • In 2019, Olson's men's and women's squads tallied three individual CCAA Championships for outdoor competition while the men's team earned five USTFCCCA All-West Region selections.
  • In 2022, Olson guided both teams to a combined three individual CCAA Championships, 13 All-CCAA selections and five outdoor and three indoor USTFCCCA All-West Region honors.
  • In 2023, the Cougars earned a combined five individual CCAA Championships, 19 All-CCAA selections, six outdoor and three indoor USTFCCCA All-West Region honorees under Olson's leadership.
  • In 2024, CSUSM had a combined five individual CCAA Champions, 16 All-CCAA selections and five outdoor USTFCCCA All-West Region honorees.
  • Olson came to CSUSM after spending three seasons as the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country at the Academy of Art University where his teams earned 50-plus All-American honors.
  • Olson served as the head cross country coach for the previous three years at Academy of Art.
  • In addition to the Academy of Art, Olson has also worked with the University of San Francisco and Pomona-Pitzer College.
  • A graduate of Pomona College in 2009, Olson also holds an MFA from St. Mary's College (2012).
