Badrani, Teunissen Named CSUSM Student-Athletes of the Month
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Rasha Badrani of the women's track & field team and Garrett Teunissen of the baseball team have been named the Cal State San Marcos Student-Athletes of the Month for March 2024.
The CSUSM Student-Athletes of the Month awards are determined through a vote of all Department of Athletics coaches, administrators and staff. Each in-season program nominates a student-athlete to be considered for the award each month.
Badrani broke CSUSM's 22-year-old school record in the 100-meter dash at the Ben Brown Invitational with a time of 11.96 seconds – .11 faster than the previous mark set in 2022. At the same meet, Badrani ran the second-fastest 200-meter time in team history at 24.50 seconds. The San Marcos native had her third top-10 program mark of the day with a 100-meter hurdles time of 14.55 seconds, ranking seventh in program history. She recorded an NCAA provisional in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.13 at the Mangrum Invitational. She also helped set two 4x100-meter relay top-10 program marks.
Teunissen led the Cougars with a .500 batting average, 27 runs, eight doubles, two triples, a .541 on-base percentage, eight sacrifice bunts and 12 stolen bases in March while earning 35 hits, two home runs, 18 RBIs and a .757 slugging percentage. For the week of March 4-10, Teunissen was named the NCBWA Division II West Region Player of the Week and CCAA Player of the Week. The Corona native had six games with three hits and 13 games with multiple hits while posting four games with two stolen bases each. Teunissen tallied a season-high four RBIs against Cal State Dominguez Hills on March 2.
Badrani and the women's track & field team will compete in the Triton Invitational this Saturday. Teunissen and the baseball squad will host Sonoma State in four-game series this weekend at the CSUSM Baseball Field.
