CSUSM Set for 2025 CCAA Track & Field Championships
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's and women's track & field teams will head to Stanislaus State for the 2025 CCAA Track & Field Championships taking place Thursday, May 1 through Saturday, May 3 at Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium in Turlock.
LAST MEET
- The Cougars last competed April 17-19 in five different meets.
- Rasha Badrani broke her own school record in the 400-meter dash by 1.95 seconds, finishing with an NCAA provisional time of 52.72. Her time is currently second in Division II this season and ranks 25th all-time.
- Angela McManus had the eighth-fastest 10,000-meter time in team history at 36:26.28, finishing third out of 24 entrants.
- Kennadi Cauley had the ninth-fastest 3000-meter steeplechase time in program history at 11:46.46.
- Aliyah Ratcliffe tied for the seventh-best long jump mark in program history at 5.28 meters.
- Nick Melanese posted an NCAA provisional time of 1:50.36 in the 800-meter run.
- Jason Wells ran the third-fastest 200-meter dash in program history at 21.67 seconds.
- Cody Purvis posted the fourth-best shot put mark in team history with a distance of 13.98 meters.
- Braden Oberg and Mateo Saldana had the seventh- and eighth-fastest 800-meter times in program history at 1:51.83 and 1:52.00, respectively.

CCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
- This will be the 82nd running of the CCAA Track & Field Championships since beginning in 1939. The meet did not occur 1943-45 due to World War II and 2020-21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- This is Stanislaus State's second consecutive year hosting the conference championships.
- The Cougars will begin the three-day meet with the heptathlon on Thursday at 11 a.m.
- Over the course of the three days, 38 individual champions and four relay teams, along with two team champions, will be crowned.
- CSUSM will be taking 27 men and 30 women to the meet.
- In last year's meet, CSUSM's men placed fifth with 73 points while the women also took fifth with 85 points.
- On the men's side, CSUSM won three individual championships in 2024 with Renton McGregor winning the 800-meter title, Sankalp Shastri winning the 1500-meter crown and Kalathan Laiwa-McKay earning his second consecutive shot put championship.
- On the women's side in 2024, Rasha Badrani won the 400-meter hurdles championship while former Cougar Lilly McGraw took home the pole vault title.
- The Cougars have a combined 23 performances this season that rank in the top three of the CCAA across all events.
THE OLSON FILE
- Head coach Torrey Olson begins his seventh season at the helm of the men's and women's track & field programs after taking over in the summer of 2018.
- In 2019, Olson's men's and women's squads tallied three individual CCAA Championships for outdoor competition while the men's team earned five USTFCCCA All-West Region selections.
- In 2022, Olson guided both teams to a combined three individual CCAA Championships, 13 All-CCAA selections and five outdoor and three indoor USTFCCCA All-West Region honors.
- In 2023, the Cougars earned a combined five individual CCAA Championships, 19 All-CCAA selections, six outdoor and three indoor USTFCCCA All-West Region honorees under Olson's leadership.
- In 2024, CSUSM had a combined five individual CCAA Champions, 16 All-CCAA selections and five outdoor USTFCCCA All-West Region honorees.
- Olson came to CSUSM after spending three seasons as the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country at the Academy of Art University where his teams earned 50-plus All-American honors.
- Olson served as the head cross country coach for the previous three years at Academy of Art.
- In addition to the Academy of Art, Olson has also worked with the University of San Francisco and Pomona-Pitzer College.
- A graduate of Pomona College in 2009, Olson also holds an MFA from St. Mary's College (2012).
