SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team (7-5-5, 4-4-2 CCAA) kept its postseason hopes alive with a 2-1 win over Chico State (5-6-6, 2-5-3 CCAA) on Sunday at The Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trying to clear a threatening Chico advance, CSUSM inadvertently put the ball into its own goal to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead in the third minute.
- CSUSM made up for its third-minute mistake in the 35th minute. On a corner kick from the right side by Izzie Krysinski, Danielle Paulson headed the ball into the center of the net from just in front of the goal to make it a 1-1 game.
- At the half, CSUSM led in shots (6-2), shots on goal (4-0) and possession (54%-46%) while tying Chico in corner kicks with four.
- Following a deflected penalty kick by Natalie Paulson, she took another shot that also deflected off the keeper before finding herself taking a third shot that found its way into the bottom right corner of the goal from three yards out to give CSUSM a 2-1 lead in the 80th minute.
QUICK KICKS
- CSUSM ended the game with the edge in shots (15-6), shots on goal (10-3) and possession (51%-49%) while Chico took more corner kicks (7-6).
- Danielle Paulson's goal was her team-leading fifth of the season while sister Natalie Paulson tallied her third goal.
- Krysinski's assist was the first of her collegiate career and was her third point of the weekend.
- CSUSM is now 5-2-3 in the all-time series against Chico and is still undefeated at home at 5-0.
- CSUSM ended the day in a three-way tie for sixth in the CCAA standings with Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal Poly Humboldt with one game to go. Of the three tied teams, the Cougars currently own the tiebreaker, as four of their points came against the Lumberjacks and Otters.
