SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 14 Cal State San Marcos women's golf team will make its second consecutive and third overall appearance at the NCAA National Championships on May 21-25 at Winter Garden, Florida.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Cougars claimed a fifth-place finish at the NCAA West Regional on May 8 at the Brookside Golf & Country Club in Stockton, California.
- CSUSM posted a 14-over 878 (294-284-300) in the three-round tournament.
- Madison Murr was crowned the West Regional individual medalist with a 8-under 208 (72-67-69), becoming CSUSM's first in program history.
WGCA ALL-WEST REGION
- Madison Murr collected her second consecutive WGCA All-West Region Award on Monday morning.
- Murr is ranked No. 2 in NCAA Division II according to Scoreboard powered by Clippd.
- Murr enters the NCAA Championships with a 71.2 scoring average.

2024 NCAA DIVISION II NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
- This marks CSUSM's third appearance in the NCAA Division II National Championships.
- In their first appearance, the Cougars were the 2019 NCAA Division II National Runner-Up. Jaime Jacob was crowned the 2019 National Champion with an even-par 219.
- In 2023, CSUSM made its second appearance at the national championships and narrowly missed out on the cut to advance to medal-match play after finishing in ninth place.
- Dallas Baptist is the reigning NCAA Division II National Champion, defeating Nova Southeastern 3-2 in medal-match play.
- Nova Southeastern's Olivia Gronborg was crowned the 2023 NCAA Division II National Champion after carding a 6-under 210, four strokes less than second place. Gronborg is now a member of the University of Miami women's golf team.
- A field of 98 golfers will play three rounds of golf, one each day, starting on May 21 with the individual champion being crowned on May 23. The top eight teams on May 23 will then advance to the NCAA Division II Medal Match Championship and be put into a bracket. This is when teams will go head-to-head with golfers keeping track of how many holes they have won against the golfer they are playing with. The team champion will be crowned on May 25.
COUGAR OUTLOOK
- This year's squad will feature three new Cougars in the lineup — freshmen Chloe Rahn and Maddie Reed in addition to midseason transfer Hannah Anderson
- The Cougars won their fourth consecutive CCAA Championship title in 2023, defeating second-place Cal State Monterey Bay by six strokes.
- After a third-place finish in the NCAA West Regional, CSUSM made its second appearance in the NCAA National Championships, finishing ninth in stroke play.
THE HUTTON FILE
- Head coach Greg Hutton has been at the helm of the men's program since the 2010-11 season and was named the women's head coach in 2014.
- In his 13 years as the Cougar men's coach and nine years as the Cougar women's coach, Hutton has led CSUSM to 60 tournament victories (36 women/24 men).
- The CSUSM women's team was the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship runner-up, led by National Champion Jaime Jacob.
- The CSUSM men's golfer Matt Pennington was the program's first-ever CCAA Champion and NCAA West/South Central Regional Champion in 2022.
- In 2023, the CSUSM men's team captured its first-ever CCAA Championship Tournament Title, defeating runner-up Cal State Monterey by one stroke on April 19 at the Victory Club in Riverside.
- Under Hutton's leadership, the women's team won CSUSM's first CCAA Championship in school history in 2018 and the Cougars defended their title in 2019, 2022, 2023 and 2024.
- In CSUSM's first year of being a full-fledged NCAA Division II member in 2017-18, the Cougar men's and women's golf teams each qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships.
