SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 9/9 Cal State San Marcos women's golf team will travel to Dallas, Texas for the Cougars' fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA West Regional on May 8-10.
LAST TOURNAMENT
- The Cougars won their fourth consecutive CCAA Golf Championship team title on April 19th in Riverside, California at the historic Victoria Club. CSUSM posted a 37-over 901, finishing with a six-stroke cushion with Cal State Monterey Bay (907, +43).
- Caroline Wales was crowned the CCAA individual medalist with a 2-over 218, becoming CSUSM's third in program history.

2023 WEST REGIONALS
- Dallas Baptist is the host of this year's NCAA West Regional.
- DBU won the 2022 NCAA West Regional with an even-par 864 (294-288-282).
- CSUSM placed seventh last season at the NCAA West Regional with a 24-over 888 (300-305-283). The Cougars' 283 third-round score was the second-lowest score of the entire tournament, just one stroke higher than DBU's final round.
- Last year's winner was Faith Kilgore of Colorado Christian, who is now a senior on the University of Texas women's golf team.
- Makenna Cabardo was CSUSM's top golfer at the 2022 West Regional with a 17th-place finish after carding a 4-over 220 (77-72-71).
- CSUSM's best finish at the NCAA West Regional to-date occurred in 2019 with a third-place finish.
COUGAR OUTLOOK
- This year's squad will feature three new Cougars in the lineup — freshmen Lynn Pham and Sade Jackson as well as Kansas transfer Caroline Wales.
- Returning for a fifth year, Breann Horn was a member of the 2019 NCAA National Championship Runner-Up team as well as a 2022 WGCA All-American first team honoree.
- The Cougars won their third consecutive CCAA Championship title in 2022, defeating second-place Cal State LA by 18 strokes.
- Then-freshman Makenna Cabardo was named the CCAA Championship Runner-Up after carding a 4-under 68 in the final round.
- CSUSM won four of its eight tournaments in 2021-22 including its own Fujikura Invitational which featured 19 teams from all over the United States.
- The Cougars moved up to No. 14 this week in the first regular-season poll after being ranked No. 15 in the 2022-23 WGCA Coaches Preseason Poll. CSUSM is ranked No. 10 in the latest Golfstat.com National Poll.
THE HUTTON FILE
- Head coach Greg Hutton has been at the helm of the men's program since the 2010-11 season and was named the women's head coach in 2014.
- In his 13 years as the Cougar men's coach and nine years as the Cougar women's coach, Hutton has led CSUSM to 55 tournament victories (30 women/25 men).
- The CSUSM women's team was the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship runner-up, led by National Champion Jaime Jacob.
- Under Hutton's leadership, the women's team won CSUSM's first CCAA Championship in school history in 2018 and the Cougars defended their title in 2019 and 2022
- In CSUSM's first year of being a full-fledged NCAA Division II member in 2017-18, the Cougar men's and women's golf teams each qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships.
