No. 16 Cougars Host CSUSM Fujikura Invitational
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 16 Cal State San Marcos women's golf team will host the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational on March 11-12 at Shadowridge Golf Club in Vista.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Cougars took sixth with a 31-over 607 at Cal State East Bay's Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout in their first tournament of the spring.
- Madison Murr moved up the leaderboard to take third place with a 1-under 143.
- Madison Murr collected her thrd individual medalist honor this year and ranks No. 2 in the country behind top-ranked Mary Kelly Mulcahy from the University of Findlay.

PIONEER SHOOTOUT
- This is the Cougars' fifth consecutive season hosting the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational.
- The Cougars took second at the Fujikura Invite last season, finishing with a 38-over 614, four strokes behind first-place Cal State Monterey Bay.
- CSUSM won the tournament in 2020 and 2023.
- In the inaugural tournament, the Cougars placed third in a field that featured nine nationally-ranked teams and six from the top 10.
- The 2022 CSUSM Fujikura Invitational medalist was freshman Diana Delgado who led wire-to-wire to capture her first collegiate tournament win with a 1-under 143 (70-73).
- CSUSM collected the team title in 2022 with an 18-over 594, defeating then-No. 1 Lynn by three strokes.
- Shadowridge Golf Club has hosted each of the CSUSM Fujikura Invitationals.
COUGAR OUTLOOK
- This year's squad will feature three new Cougars in the lineup — freshmen Chloe Rahn and Maddie Reed in addition to midseason transfer Hannah Anderson
- The Cougars won their fourth consecutive CCAA Championship title in 2023, defeating second-place Cal State Monterey Bay by six strokes.
- After a third-place finish in the NCAA West Regional, CSUSM made its second appearance in the NCAA National Championships, finishing ninth in stroke play.
THE HUTTON FILE
- Head coach Greg Hutton has been at the helm of the men's program since the 2010-11 season and was named the women's head coach in 2014.
- In his 13 years as the Cougar men's coach and nine years as the Cougar women's coach, Hutton has led CSUSM to 56 tournament victories (32 women/24 men).
- The CSUSM women's team was the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship runner-up, led by National Champion Jaime Jacob.
- The CSUSM men's golfer Matt Pennington was the program's first-ever CCAA Champion and NCAA West/South Central Regional Champion in 2022.
- In 2023, the CSUSM men's team captured its first-ever CCAA Championship Tournament Title, defeating runner-up Cal State Monterey by one stroke on April 19 at the Victory Club in Riverside.
- Under Hutton's leadership, the women's team won CSUSM's first CCAA Championship in school history in 2018 and the Cougars defended their title in 2019, 2022 and 2023.
- In CSUSM's first year of being a full-fledged NCAA Division II member in 2017-18, the Cougar men's and women's golf teams each qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships.
