SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 16/16 Cal State San Marcos women's golf team will begin the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout hosted by Cal State East Bay on Monday, Feb. 26 and Tuesday, Feb. 27 at Corica Park Golf Club in Alameda, California.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Cougars were scheduled to open their 2024 spring schedule at the LA Spring Kickoff on Feb. 5-6, but it was canceled due to heavy rain and course conditions.
- CSUSM won all four of its tournaments in the fall with a share of the Nick Turner Invitational title with Cal State East Bay.
- Madison Murr collected three individual medalist honors that launched her to No. 2 in the country behind top-ranked Mary Kelly Mulcahy from the University of Findlay.
- Murr picked up two CCAA Golfer of the Week honors while Lauren Hickam picked up the first of her career this past fall.

PIONEER SHOOTOUT
- This is CSUSM's fifth time competing in the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout hosted by Cal State East Bay.
- The Cougars did not compete in the tournament two years ago due to participating in NCAA Division I Long Beach State's The Gold Rush Tournament on the same dates.
- Due to rain, the 2023 tournament consisted of only one round with host Cal State East Bay (306, +18) taking the team title. CSUSM and Point Loma shared runner-up honors with a 24-over 312.
- Last season, Point Loma's Ali Kim was the individual medalist with a 1-under 71 while Madison Murr took runner-up honors with a 1-over 73.
- This marks the third time CSUSM has played the Corica Park South Course in Alameda.
COUGAR OUTLOOK
- This year's squad will feature three new Cougars in the lineup — freshmen Chloe Rahn and Maddie Reed in addition to midseason transfer Hannah Anderson
- The Cougars won their fourth consecutive CCAA Championship title in 2023, defeating second-place Cal State Monterey Bay by six strokes.
- After a third-place finish in the NCAA West Regional, CSUSM made its second appearance in the NCAA National Championships, finishing ninth in stroke play.
THE HUTTON FILE
- Head coach Greg Hutton has been at the helm of the men's program since the 2010-11 season and was named the women's head coach in 2014.
- In his 13 years as the Cougar men's coach and nine years as the Cougar women's coach, Hutton has led CSUSM to 56 tournament victories (32 women/24 men).
- The CSUSM women's team was the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship runner-up, led by National Champion Jaime Jacob.
- The CSUSM men's golfer Matt Pennington was the program's first-ever CCAA Champion and NCAA West/South Central Regional Champion in 2022.
- In 2023, the CSUSM men's team captured its first-ever CCAA Championship Tournament Title, defeating runner-up Cal State Monterey by one stroke on April 19 at the Victory Club in Riverside.
- Under Hutton's leadership, the women's team won CSUSM's first CCAA Championship in school history in 2018 and the Cougars defended their title in 2019, 2022 and 2023.
- In CSUSM's first year of being a full-fledged NCAA Division II member in 2017-18, the Cougar men's and women's golf teams each qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships.
