No. 8 CSUSM Set to Compete in Third Consecutive National Championship
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 8 Cal State San Marcos women's golf team will make its third consecutive and fourth overall appearance at the 2025 NCAA Division II Women's Golf National Championships on May 13-17 on the course at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Cougars shared fourth place at the NCAA West Regional on May 7 at the Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas.
- CSUSM posted a 33-over 885 (313-286-286) in the three-round tournament.
- Makenna Cabardo was CSUSM's top golfer as she finished tied for third with a 5-over 218 (77-69-72).

2025 NCAA DIVISION II NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
- This marks CSUSM's fourth appearance in the NCAA Division II National Championships.
- In their first appearance, the Cougars were the 2019 NCAA Division II National Runner-Up. Jaime Jacob was crowned the 2019 National Champion with an even-par 219.
- In 2023, CSUSM made its second appearance at the national championships and narrowly missed out on the cut to advance to medal-match play after finishing in ninth place.
- The Cougars finished in 12th place and did not advance to medal-match play last season.
- UIndy is the reigning NCAA Division II National Champion, defeating St. Mary's in a playoff after finishing medal-match play in a 2-2-1 tie.
- Findlay's Gabby Woods was crowned the 2024 NCAA Division II National Champion after carding a 9-under 207, one stroke less than second-place Olivia Mitchel of Dallas Baptist.
- A field of 98 golfers will play three rounds of golf, one each day, starting on May 13 with the individual champion being crowned on May 15. The top eight teams on May 15 will then advance to the NCAA Division II Medal Match Championship and be put into a bracket. This is when teams will go head-to-head with golfers keeping track of how many holes they have won against the golfer they are playing with. The team champion will be crowned on May 17.
COUGAR OUTLOOK
- For the second consecutive year, the squad added two new Cougars in the lineup — freshmen Faith Hamstreet and Abby Sickles.
- The Cougars won their fifth consecutive CCAA Championship title in 2024, defeating second-place Cal State Monterey Bay by 27 strokes.
- Regan Barton become CSUSM's fourth CCAA Champion, recording a 2-under 214 at the Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club.
- After a fifth-place finish in the NCAA West Regional, CSUSM made its third appearance in the NCAA National Championships, finishing 12th in stroke play.
THE HUTTON FILE
- Head coach Greg Hutton has been at the helm of the men's program since the 2010-11 season and was named the women's head coach in 2014.
- Hutton has been named CCAA Coach of the Year a total of eight times – seven times on the women's side and one time on the men's side.
- The CSUSM women's team was the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship runner-up, led by National Champion Jaime Jacob.
- CSUSM men's golfer Matt Pennington was the program's first-ever CCAA Champion and NCAA West/South Central Regional Champion in 2022.
- Under Hutton's leadership, the women's team won CSUSM's first CCAA Championship in school history in 2018 and the Cougars defended their title in 2019, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
- In 2023, the CSUSM men's team captured its first-ever CCAA Championship Tournament Title, defeating runner-up Cal State Monterey by one stroke on April 19 at the Victory Club in Riverside.
- In CSUSM's first year of being a full-fledged NCAA Division II member in 2017-18, the Cougar men's and women's golf teams each qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships.
