SAN MARCOS, Calif. –  The No. 17 Cal State San Marcos women's golf team will conclude its 2023-24 regular season at the West Texas Desert Invitational on April 1-2 at The Lodge at Ventana Canyon in Tuscon, Arizona. 

LAST TIME OUT

• CSUSM placed second with a 48-over 900 behind host and No. 1 Dallas Baptist (874, +22) at the Poppy Hills Patriot Invitational on March 19 at Poppy Hills Golf Club in Pebble Beach. 
• Makenna Cabardo was CSUSM's top golfer with a share of third place after carding a 7-over 220. 
• Madison Murr remains at No. 3 in the country behind top-ranked Mary Kelly Mulcahy from the University of Findlay and No. 2 Tella Jelinek of Flagler. 

WEST TEXAS A&M DESERT INVITATIONAL 

• The Cougars return to the West Texas A&M Desert Invitational after a four-year hiatus. 
• CSUSM was scheduled to compete in the tournament in 2020, but it was canceled due to the COVID pandemic. 
• The Cougars shared first place with Grand Canyon in 2019 after carding a 21-over 597. 
• Claire Hogle was CSUSM's top golfer after taking second place with a 1-over 145.   

COUGAR OUTLOOK

• This year's squad will feature three new Cougars in the lineup — freshmen Chloe Rahn and Maddie Reed in addition to midseason transfer Hannah Anderson 
• The Cougars won their fourth consecutive CCAA Championship title in 2023, defeating second-place Cal State Monterey Bay by six strokes. 
• After a third-place finish in the NCAA West Regional, CSUSM made its second appearance in the NCAA National Championships, finishing ninth in stroke play. 

THE HUTTON FILE

• Head coach Greg Hutton has been at the helm of the men's program since the 2010-11 season and was named the women's head coach in 2014.
• In his 13 years as the Cougar men's coach and nine years as the Cougar women's coach, Hutton has led CSUSM to 59 tournament victories (35 women/24 men). 
• The CSUSM women's team was the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship runner-up, led by National Champion Jaime Jacob.
• The CSUSM men's golfer Matt Pennington was the program's first-ever CCAA Champion and NCAA West/South Central Regional Champion in 2022. 
• In 2023, the CSUSM men's team captured its first-ever CCAA Championship Tournament Title, defeating runner-up Cal State Monterey by one stroke on April 19 at the Victory Club in Riverside. 
• Under Hutton's leadership, the women's team won CSUSM's first CCAA Championship in school history in 2018 and the Cougars defended their title in 2019, 2022 and 2023. 
• In CSUSM's first year of being a full-fledged NCAA Division II member in 2017-18, the Cougar men's and women's golf teams each qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships.
