Cougars Drop Tight CCAA Contest to CSUDH, 82-76

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team (6-9, 3-7 CCAA) dropped an 82-76 decision to Cal State Dominguez Hills (4-11, 4-6 CCAA) on Saturday afternoon at The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Cal State Dominguez Hills opened the game on a 7-2 run, but CSUSM answered with a Maddie Leiva steal and three-pointer at the 1:58 mark to cut the deficit to two points.
  • The Toros carried an 18-12 lead into the end of the first quarter after holding CSUSM to 28.6 percent shooting from the field.
  • CSUDH pushed its lead to a game-high nine points, 21-12, at 9:41 of the second quarter before the Cougars sparked a 10-2 run to pull within one at 23-22 with 6:51 remaining.
  • CSUSM took its first lead of the game, 27-26, on a Portia Polo three-pointer with 4:12 left in the second quarter.
  • The Cougars entered halftime ahead 34-31 after shooting 60.0% (9-of-15) from the field in the second quarter compared to CSUDH's 26.7% (4-of-15).
