Vasquez D2CCA West Region Player of the Year, Gallegos All-West Region First Team
SAN FRANCISCO – Cal State San Marcos senior Jordan Vasquez was named the West Region Player of the Year and junior Charity Gallegos joined her on the All-West Region first team with the announcement of the 2024 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) Women's All-West Region Team on Thursday.
The dynamic duo led the Cougars to the program's third CCAA Regular-Season Championship and second consecutive CCAA Tournament Championship win.
A forward from Moreno Valley, Vasquez was named CCAA Player of the Year and CCAA Tournament MVP this past week for her accomplishments on the court this season.
Vasquez has recorded 20 double-doubles in points and rebounds this season, ranking her third in NCAA Division II. Her 12.0 rebounds per game rank her second in the nation and also leads the CCAA with 347 total rebounds (4th in DII) and 8.0 defensive rebounds per game (7th in DII). Vasquez is the conference leader with a 55.7 field-goal percentage. She is the sixth Cougar to join the 1,000-point club and has accumulated 1,120 points as a Cougar in three years. In her five-year collegiate career, Vasquez just passed the 1,700-point mark that includes her two years at Fort Lewis.
A guard from Sacramento, Gallegos was also named to the CCAA All-Tournament Team and earned her second All-CCAA first-team honor this season.
Gallegos is also averaging 16.1 points per game while leading the CCAA in 3-point field-goal percentage at 39.7 (22nd in DII). She ranks second in the conference with 75 3-pointers and third with 2.59 3-pointers per game. In her three years as a collegiate student-athlete, Gallegos has accumulated 1,163 points between her one year at Chico State and two years at CSUSM. She has tallied 831 points as a Cougar.
The second-seeded Cougars will face seventh-seeded Point Loma in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II West Regional on Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the Felix Event Center on the campus of Azusa Pacific.
Vasquez and Gallegos will now advance to the D2CCA All-America ballot, with Vasquez advancing to the ballot for the Ron Lenz D2CCA Player of the Year.
Voting was conducted by the NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors from West Region institutions and conference offices. The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
