Cougars Fall to PLNU in Season Opener
AZUSA, Calif. – In its 2024-25 season opener, the Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team (0-1) fell 92-74 to Point Loma (1-0) in the PacWest/CCAA Conference Challenge at the Felix Event Center on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- PLNU closed out the first quarter with a 9-2 run to hold a 20-14 lead after 10 minutes.
- The Cougars trailed 46-29 at the halftime break after shooting 44.4% (12-of-27) from the field to PLNU's 54.8% (17-fo-31).
- Hetrick tallied 10 of her 18 points in the first half after going 3-for-5 from the field, 1-of-1 at the 3-point line and 3-of-3 at the charity stripe.
- The Sea Lions took their largest lead of the game on a 3-pointer by Grace Moyers to make it 62-35 at 5:28 of the third quarter.
- CSUSM got its best scoring run in the fourth quarter that started with a Hetrick jumper, followed by 3-pointer and two made free throws by Johnson to cut PLNU's lead to 77-59.
FAST BREAKS
- CSUSM ended the game shooting 44.6% (25-of-56) from the field while PLNU came in at 54.8% (34-of-62).
- PLNU won the battle of the boards at 31-22 with 13 coming on the offensive side.
- The Cougars had the edge in steals (6-5), fewer turnovers (9-15) and blocked shots (4-2) while PLNU had more assists (23-10).
- CSUSM scored 16 points off turnovers to PLNU's six.
- The Sea Lions notched 48 points in the paint while the Cougars finished with 26.
- PLNU's bench contributed 30 points to CSUSM's 16.
- The Sea Lions now hold a 10-6 lead in the all-time series against CSUSM.
