Cougars Fall 69-63 at Cal State San Bernardino
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team (6-6, 3-4 CCAA) dropped a 69-63 decision to Cal State San Bernardino (7-5, 5-2 CCAA) on Thursday evening at Coussoulis Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the hosts went up 11-6 at 3:41 on a Hunter Simon tip-in, CSUSM closed the period on a 9-5 spurt capped by a Maddie Leiva jumper at 0:38 to lead 17-13 before a CSUSB trey cut it to 17-16 at the buzzer.
- Early in the second, Kristan Yumul's jumper made it 19-16 at 9:41, and Portia Polo's three put CSUSM ahead 26-20 with 6:47 left—its largest lead of the half.
- CSUSB rallied to tie 28-28 at 2:37 on a Princess Cassell three-point play, but Kate Bobadilla answered with a second-chance three at 1:54 before Tamashiro's tip-in at 0:37 sent CSUSM to the break up 35-33.
- CSUSM took a 35-33 lead into halftime after shooting 43.3% (13-of-30) to CSUSB's 32.4% (11-of-34).
- The Cougars stretched the margin to 44-38 on Yumul's three at 5:45 of the third, but CSUSB closed the frame on a 14-4 run, highlighted by a Paisley Specht three at 1:21, to lead 52-48 after three.
- Simon's tip-in at 9:42 pushed CSUSB's advantage to 54-48 early in the fourth before Polo drilled a corner three at 7:52 to bring CSUSM within 56-51.
- Bobadilla's triple at 4:37 cut the deficit to 57-55, but a sequence of offensive rebounds led to Ruffin's putback at 3:43 and a transition layup at 2:31 as CSUSB rebuilt a 61-55 cushion.
- Bobadilla finished a layup with 20 seconds left to make it 68-63, but CSUSB hit a free throw to close out the 69-63 final.
- CSUSM shot better from the field at 41.8% (23-of-55) compared to CSUSB's 36.1% (22-of-61).
- The Cougars also edged the Coyotes from beyond the arc, 28.0% (7-of-25) to 21.1% (4-of-19).
- CSUSB controlled the glass, posting a 51-29 rebounding advantage with 22 of them coming on the offensive side and a 19-7 edge in second-chance points,
- Points in the paint favored CSUSB, 32-28, while CSUSM held a 14-12 advantage in points off turnovers.
- Bench scoring tilted to CSUSB, 27-18, while fastbreak points were 4-2 in favor of the Coyotes.
