CSUSM Advances to CCAA Tournament Championship Game

SAN MARCOS, Calif. –  The Cal State San Marcos (34-19) softball team punched its ticket to the CCAA Tournament Championship game with a 4-1 victory over Cal State East Bay on Friday afternoon at CSUSM Softball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Waymire hit a one-out triple off the left field wall in the first inning before scoring on Albayati's infield single to put CSUSM up 1-0.
  • The Pioneers evened the game in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by Adriana Martinez.
  • The Cougars opened up the game in the top of the seventh with an RBI single up the middle by Donnelly before Waymire recorded a 2-RBI double off the right field wall to make it 4-1.

 
QUICK HITS

  • Sloss (16-8) tossed her second consecutive complete game for her second win of the CCAA Tournament, allowing one run on four hits and one walk while fanning five batters. 
  • CSUEB's reliever Marissa Quintero took the loss after two innings in the circle, allowing three runs on five hits and walking none.
  • Waymire recorded her eighth multi-RBI game, moving her into the third spot on the team.
  • This is CSUSM's first appearance in the CCAA Tournament Championship game.
     

UP NEXT
The Cougars will face Cal State East Bay at 11 a.m. in the CCAA Tournament Championship game. CSUSM only has to win one of two games to clinch the program's first conference tournament title.
