Sloss, Donnelly, Waymire Earn NFCA All-West Region Nods

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team had three Cougars named to the 2024 NFCA Division II All-West Region teams, the association announced on Thursday. Pitcher Jayline Sloss and first baseman Paige Donnelly were selected to the first team while outfielder Madison Waymire received a secondteam nod.

Starting in a West Region-high 30 games in the circle, Sloss entered the NCAA Tournament with the fifth-lowest ERA among the three conferences at 1.30. The Bakersfield native is holding opponents to a .215 batting average in 182.2 innings. Sloss has an 18-8 record after recording a 9-1 victory over Cal State East Bay in the Cougars' opening game of the NCAA Division West Regional. The right-hander pitcher has tallied 117 strikeouts with 47 of them looking. This is Sloss' second NFCA All-West Region nod as she earned second-team honors in 2022.

Donnelly boasts a team-leading .363 batting average and .589 slugging percentage. She is the West Region leader with 17 doubles. The Poway native has recorded a team-best 12 multi-RBI and 16 multi-hit games. Donnelly put together the longest reached-base and hit streaks this season at 23 and 18 games, respectively. This is Donnelly's third time earning NFCA All-West Region honors and second time being selected to the first team.

Waymire is the West Region leader with 51 runs (with an eight-run gap to second place) and 0.91 runs per game. Serving as CSUSM's leadoff batter for most of the season, Waymire is recording a .343 batting average and leads the team with 61 hits and eight home runs. The Rancho Cucamonga native had the second-longest reached-base streak at 21 games. Waymire ranks second on the team with 15 multi-hit games, including a 4-for-4 performance with a home run and a triple. This is Waymire's first NFCA All-West Region honor.

With a 9-1 victory over Cal State East Bay in their West Regional opener, the Cougars will face host and top-seeded Western Washington at 10 a.m. on Friday at Viking Field.
