No. 18 CSUSM Shuts Out Chico Twice
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 18 Cal State San Marcos softball team (27-10, 13-9 CCAA) registered back-to-back shutouts against Chico State (19-17, 11-15 CCAA) on Friday afternoon at CSUSM Softball Field. The Cougars run-ruled the Wildcats in game one, 8-0, before ending the day with a 5-0 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUSM went up 2-0 in the second inning on a two-out, full-count, 2-RBI double to left center by Czar Fleischman.
- The Cougars doubled their lead in the third on RBI singles by Anessa Arredondo and Savannah Coyle to make it 4-0.
- To lead off the bottom of the fifth, Madison Waymire crushed the first pitch she saw over the left field wall to raise CSUSM's lead to 5-0.
- In the sixth inning, Makenzie Guiliano hit a 2-RBI stand-up triple to right center and later scored on a Chico error to end the game at 8-0 due to the mercy rule.
QUICK HITS
- CSUSM pitcher Jayline Sloss (11-4) had a no-hitter going into the sixth, finishing with a two-hit shutout for the win while fanning five batters.
- Wildcat pitcher Amelie Valdez (9-9) took the loss after going 5.1 innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits.
- Madison Waymire hit her fifth home run of the season in the contest, taking the lead spot on the team.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- All five of CSUSM's runs came in the fifth inning off four hits and two errors. After leading off the inning with an infield single, Makenzie Guiliano scored on a Madison Waymire bunt single and Chico error to put the Cougars up 1-0. Paige Donnelly drew a walk and was replaced by pinch runner Jordan Elias. Waymire scored on a Jillian Albayati RBI single up the middle to make it 2-0. After Delaney Prater drew a four-pitch walk, pinch hitter Gianna Lombardi knocked out a 2-RBI single through the right side to plate Albayati and Elias. Prater scored CSUSM's final run of the game on Chico's second error of the inning to raise CSUSM's lead to 5-0.
QUICK HITS
- CSUSM's pitcher Savannah Coyle (8-4) recorded the win after six innings of work, allowing five hits and no walks while striking out three.
- Cougar pitcher Dahlia Fink entered in the seventh inning in relief, registering three groundouts to close out the game.
- Wildcat pitcher Kylie Loertscher (4-5) took the loss after going six innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on four hits and six walks.
- This was CSUSM's first CCAA doubleheader shutout in program history.
