CSUSM Athletics Posts 3.321 GPA for Spring 2024
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Cal State San Marcos Athletics posted a 3.321 grade-point average as a department for the Spring 2024 semester.
"I'm so proud of the amazing work our student-athletes are doing as scholar-athletes," CSUSM Interim Director of Athletics Morod Shah said. "Not only are they excelling athletically, but they are campus leaders in the classroom. We have incredible student-athletes who continue to shine in all aspects of being a Cougar."
Every program recorded a term GPA of at least 3.0 for the Spring 2024 semester. For the entire academic year, the department recorded a 3.311 GPA – the eighth consecutive year in which Athletics posted a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Volleyball posted an all-time program-best team GPA of 3.659 in 2023-24 while leading the department. It was followed by women's soccer (3.597), women's golf (3.582), women's cross country (3.515), women's track & field (3.433), men's basketball (3.297), men's cross country (3.277), women's basketball (3.252), men's soccer (3.110), baseball (3.069) and softball (3.065).
Of all student-athletes, 74.1% of student-athletes had a semester GPA of 3.0 or higher while 49.8% had a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher. Cumulatively, 77.7% of student-athletes had an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher, and 42.8% had an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher.
CSUSM had 30 student-athletes earn the Mangrum Award for Academic Excellence with a perfect 4.0 GPA for the semester. There were 99 Big Blue Award winners with a GPA of 3.500-3.999 while 61 earned the Cougar Award with a GPA of 3.000-3.499.
