SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Paige Donnelly and Jayline Sloss of the Cal State San Marcos softball team were named to the 2024 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2 CCA) All-West Region Softball First Team on Monday.
The D2 CCA encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of high education. The D2 CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact NCAA Division II athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
Donnelly is the West Region leader with 17 doubles this season. She boasts the season-highest batting average (.344) and slugging percentage (.566). The Poway native recorded a team-best 12 multi-RBI and 16 multi-hit games. Donnelly put together the longest reached-base and hit streaks this season at 23 and 18 games, respectively. This is Donnelly's third time earning D2CCA All-West Region honors and second time being selected to the first team.
Starting in a West Region-high 30 games in the circle, Sloss concluded the season with the fifth-lowest ERA among the three conferences at 1.32. The Bakersfield native held opponents to a .214 batting average in 196.2 innings. With a 19-9 record, the right-handed pitcher tallied 128 strikeouts with 47 of them looking. This is Sloss' second D2 CCA All-West Region nod as she earned second-team honors in 2022.
The D2 CCA All-Region teams are nominated and selected by members of the region's athletics communications staffs. The 14 members of the All-West Region first team will now be placed on the national ballot for All-America consideration. The All-America teams will be released on Thursday, May 23.
