No. 15 CSUSM Drops Two to Cal Poly Humboldt
LOLETA, Calif. – The No. 15 Cal State San Marcos softball team (24-9, 10-8 CCAA) dropped a doubleheader to Cal Poly Humboldt (21-14, 10-10 CCAA) on Friday by scores of 11-3 (six innings) and 7-6 at Bear River Sports Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lumberjacks went up 3-0 in the opening frame on RBI singles by Shelby Shanks, and Vanessa Saltos as well as a groundout RBI by Hailey Meisenbach.
- Humboldt added another run in the third on a Hailee Moore RBI single up the middle, making it 4-0.
- The Cougars cut the deficit in half at 4-2 with a pair of runs in the fourth on RBI groundout by Jillian Albayati and an RBI single by Delaney Prater.
- CSUSM made it 4-3 a game in the top of the fifth as Makenzie Guiliano knocked out an RBI single up the middle.
- The Jacks put together a six-run fifth inning on an RBI double by Alyssa Ramirez, a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and a grand slam by Shanks.
- Humboldt got the mercy-ruled win on an RBI double by Katlyn Gifford in the sixth that made it 11-3.

- Humboldt starting pitcher Gaige Garcia (12-3) collected the win after four innings of work, allowing three earned runs on six hits and one walk while striking out four.
- CSUSM starting pitcher Jayline Sloss (9-4) took the loss after going 4.2 innings, giving up nine runs on six hits, four walks and six hit batters while striking out three.
- Jillian Albayati saw her 12-game hitting streak come to an end.
- The six hit batters by the CSUSM pitching staff are the most since the Cougars became full-fledged members of NCAA Division II.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- A three-run homer by Paige Donnelly followed by an RBI groundout by Olivia Rivera gave CSUSM an early 4-0 lead in the first inning.
- In the bottom of the first, Humboldt cut the Cougars' lead in half with a two-run home run by Alyssa Smokey to make it 4-2 CSUSM.
- The Jacks evened the game at 4-4 in the third on a CSUSM fielding error that plated two runs.
- The Cougars went up 5-4 in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Rivera.
- In the bottom of the fifth, the Jacks took a 7-5 lead on an RBI single to left field by Vanessa Saltos followed by a 2-RBI double by Katlyn Gifford.
- CSUSM made it 7-6 in the top of the sixth on a Donnelly RBI groundout.
- A two-out single by Czar Fleischman and a stolen base put CSUSM in a position to tie it, but the Jacks ended the game with a groundout.
