SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 25 Cal State San Marcos softball team (35-16, 21-13) CCAA) split Friday's doubleheader with No. 13 Cal State East Bay (35-11, 23-10 CCAA). The Cougars dropped game one, 5-2, before Paige Donnelly hit a walk-off RBI double in the ninth to take game two, 2-1, from the Pioneers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Gianna Lombardi stole second and Madison Waymire took advantage of a CSUEB error to score a run.
• CSUSM extended its lead in the fourth inning to 2-0 on a Lombardi leadoff home run over the left center wall.
• East Bay went up 3-2 in the top of the fifth inning. The Pioneers tied the game on RBI singles by Cynthia Carrillo and Marissa Farias before taking the lead on a bases-loaded walk.  
• The Cougars had the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the fifth but a 5-2-3 double play ended the inning.
• The Pioneers made it 4-2 in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Alexas Zumstein.
• East Bay added one more run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Annelise Garcia.

QUICK HITS

• CSUEB pitcher Ashlee Toy (13-5) recorded the win after allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and one walk in a complete-game outing.
• CSUSM pitcher Jayline Sloss (15-7) took the loss after allowing three runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings.  
• Madison Waymire extended her streak of reaching base safely to a team's season-high 22 games.  
• With the win, the Pioneers won the 2025 CCAA Regular-Season Championship.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• An RBI single by Gianna Lombardi in the bottom of the sixth snapped Pioneer pitcher Marissa Quintero's streak of 25 consecutive shutout innings, giving CSUSM a 1-0 lead.
• The Pioneers evened the game at 1-1 on a full-count, leadoff home run by Alexa Zumstein in the top of the seventh.
• Makenzie Guiliano led off the ninth inning with an infield single to second and scored on Paige Donnelly's RBI double to right center to give CSUSM the 2-1 win.

 
QUICK HITS

• CSUSM starting pitcher Dahlia Fink retired the first 15 batters before giving up the Pioneers' first hit of the game in the top of the sixth.  
• CSUSM relief pitcher Savannah Coyle (11-6) collected the win after going 3.1 innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out one.
• CSUEB pitcher Jaidyn Gamble (6-3) picked up the loss after going 1.1 innings, giving up one run on two hits and walking one.   
• Madison Waymire raised her team's season-best streak of reaching base safely to 22 games after being hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the first.   
• With Sonoma State and San Francisco State also splitting their doubleheaders today, CSUSM remains in second place with a one-game lead.

The Cougars will wrap up the regular season with an 11 a.m. doubleheader against the Pioneers at CSUSM Softball Field.  CSUSM will celebrate its 10 seniors following Saturday's doubleheader with a special Senior Day ceremony.
