Cougars Earn No. 4 Seed in NCAA Regional

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – As CCAA Tournament Champions, the reigning West Regional champion Cal State San Marcos softball team earned the automatic bid to the NCAA West Regional and will be the No. 4 seed as announced on the NCAA Division II Softball Selection Show on Monday morning.

The No. 4-seeded Cougars (35-20) will head to the far north to Western Washington in Bellingham, Washington to face No. 5-seeded Cal State East Bay (29-22) in the first round on Thursday with the time being announced later.

Joining the Cougars and Pioneers at the same site will be top-seeded and host Western Washington (42-7) and No.8-seeded Azusa Pacific (30-19)

The other West Regional pod consists of No. 2-seeded and host Northwest Nazarene (39-10), No. 3-seeded Concordia University Irvine (39-12), No. 6-seeded Cal State Dominguez Hills (35-19) and No. 7-seeded Saint Martin's (26-20).

This will be the eighth time the Cougars have faced the Pioneers this season. The two teams split the series in San Marcos during the regular season. CSUSM defeated East Bay 4-1 on Friday in the CCAA Tournament to advance to the CCAA Tournament Championship Game where the Cougars ended up facing the Pioneers again, falling 4-2 to force an 'if-necessary' game which CSUSM won 6-2 to clinch the tournament title for the first time in program history.
