NCAA Provisional, Two School Records, Seven Top-10 Program Marks Highlight Mangrum Invitational

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's track & field team saw an NCAA provisional, two school records and seven top-10 program marks at the Mangrum Invitational on Friday at Mangrum Track & Field.
 
TOP PERFORMANCES

  • Nick Melanese had a winning NCAA provisional time in the 1500-meter run at 3:46.95 while Sankalp Shastri finished second with the fifth-fastest time in program history at 3:48.49.
  • CSUSM began the day by breaking the 15-year-old school record in the 4x100-meter relay as the team of Dre Johnson, Zavier Hidalgo, Jason Wells and Troy Thompson Jr. came in at 41.20 - .49 faster than the previous mark set in 2010.
  • Johnson then broke his second school record of the day in the 100-meter dash at 10.58 seconds - .04 better than the record he set last season. Wells had the program's second-fastest time at 10.61 seconds while Thompson had the sixth-fastest time at 10.79 seconds.
  • In the discus throw, Kalathan Laiwa-McKay had the second-best mark in program history at 47.34 meters. He later finished second in the shot put at 16.60 meters.
  • Sid Marshall tied for the ninth-best high jump mark in team history at 1.94 meters.
  • CSUSM finished 1-2-3 in the 800-meter run as Mateo Saldana, Braden Oberg and Renton McGregor finished with times of 1:53.34, 1:53.41 and 1:54.93, respectively.
  • Will Prouty finished third in the hammer throw at 53.27 meters.

CSUSM will wrap up the weekend with a visit to UC Irvine for the Vince O'Boyle Track & Field Classic on Saturday.
