SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's and women's track & field teams will head to Point Loma for the Ross & Sharon Irwin Invitational beginning at 9 a.m. at PLNU Track & Field.
LAST WEEK
- Last weekend at the Ben Brown Invitational, the men's team saw a new school record and five additional top-10 times while the women's team had one school record with three other top-10 times.
- Rasha Badrani was named the CCAA Track Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week for breaking the program's 22-year-old school record in the 100-meter dash at 10.97 seconds. She also posted the second-fastest 200-meter time in team history at 24.50 seconds and helped post the seventh-fastest 100-meter hurdles time at 14.55 seconds.
- Lauren Meredith recorded the sixth-best pole vault mark in team history at 3.38 meters – .02 better than her previous best.
- On the men's side, Juan Leyva broke his one-week-old school record in the hammer throw with a distance of 52.72 meters.
- Dre Johnson posted the second-fastest 100-meter time in program history at 10.70 seconds. Aeden Fernandez tallied the eighth-fastest time in team history at 10.91 while Julian Watson had the school's 10th-fastest time at 10.95.
- Johnson also recorded the fifth-fastest 200-time in school history at 21.97 seconds.
- In the 4x100-meter relay, Johnson, Mateo Gomez, Charles Rogers and Watson posted the second-fastest time in team history at 41.81 seconds.

ROSS & SHARON IRWIN INVITATIONAL
- This will be CSUSM's sixth consecutive season competing at the Ross & Sharon Irwin Invitational.
- Field events will begin at 9 a.m. with running events scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m.
- Last season, the men's team saw one top-10 program mark with Jackson Cross posting a mark of 6.63 meters in the long jump, which currently sits in a tie for eighth all-time.
- The women's had three top-10 marks last season as Lilly McGraw had pole vault marks of 3.29 and 3.14 meters, respectively, while Rachelle Zilavec had a javelin throw of 32.71 meters. All three have since eclipsed those marks in their respective events.
THE OLSON FILE
- Head coach Torrey Olson begins his sixth season at the helm of the men's and women's track & field programs after taking over in the summer of 2018.
- In 2019, Olson's men's and women's squads tallied three individual CCAA Championships for outdoor competition while the men's team earned five USTFCCCA All-West Region selections.
- In 2022, Olson guided both teams to a combined three individual CCAA Championships, 13 All-CCAA selections and five outdoor and three indoor USTFCCCA All-West Region honors.
- In 2023, the Cougars earned a combined five individual CCAA Championships, 19 All-CCAA selections, six outdoor and three indoor USTFCCCA All-West Region honorees under Olson's leadership.
- Olson came to CSUSM after spending three seasons as the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country at the Academy of Art University where his teams earned 50-plus All-American honors.
- Olson served as the head cross country coach the previous three years at Academy of Art.
- In addition to the Academy of Art, Olson has also worked with the University of San Francisco and Pomona-Pitzer College.
- A graduate of Pomona College in 2009, Olson also holds an MFA from St. Mary's College (2012).
