SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's and women's track & field teams will have a trio of meets it will compete at this week as it heads to Azusa Pacific for the Bryan Clay Invitational taking place on Friday and Saturday, Long Beach State's Beach Invitational on Friday and Saturday and La Verne's Leopard Distance Carnival on Friday.
LAST MEET
- Rasha Badrani broke the 16-year-old school record in the 400-meter run with an NCAA provisional of 54.75 seconds – .71 faster than Samantha Showns' 2008 time of 55.46.
- Badrani was then named CCAA Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the third time this season on Tuesday.
- Lilly McGraw broke her two-week-old school record in the pole vault with an NCAA provisional height of 3.79 meters – .07 better than her previous mark.
- Devin Yarbrough recorded the second-fastest 100-meter dash time in program history at 11.97 seconds – just .01 behind the school record held by teammate Rasha Badrani.
- On the men's side, Nick Melanese posted an NCAA provisional time of 1:49.48 in the 800-meter run while Renton McGregor ran the 10th-fastest time in program history at 1:52.75.
- Melenase was subsequently named the CCAA Men's Track Athlete of the Week for the third time in his career on Tuesday.
- The men's 4x100-meter relay team of Dre Johnson, Charles Rogers, Julian Watson and Aeden Fernandez tallied the sixth-fastest time in program history at 41.92 seconds.
- Will Prouty had the ninth-best discus throw in program history at 42.52 meters.

- CSUSM will only compete in the men's and women's 800-meter runs on Friday and the men's 1500-meter run on Saturday.
- Mia Salinas, Renton McGregor and Nick Melanese will represent CSUSM in the 800 on Friday afternoon while Trevor Boaz, McGregor, Melanese and Sankalp Shastri will take part in the 1500 on Saturday night.

LEOPARD DISTANCE CARNIVAL
- This will be CSUSM's first time competing in the Leopard Distance Carnival.
- The Cougars will be competing in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase and the men's and women's 5000-meter runs.
- Jason Morse and Owen Hinz will be CSUSM's representatives in the steeplechase, competing in the first heat at 5 p.m.
- In the 5000, Carly Schuerger and Angela McManus will compete for the women while Mark De Haro, Ziggy Nacco and Jayson Oliver will compete for the men.
THE OLSON FILE
- Head coach Torrey Olson begins his sixth season at the helm of the men's and women's track & field programs after taking over in the summer of 2018.
- In 2019, Olson's men's and women's squads tallied three individual CCAA Championships for outdoor competition while the men's team earned five USTFCCCA All-West Region selections.
- In 2022, Olson guided both teams to a combined three individual CCAA Championships, 13 All-CCAA selections and five outdoor and three indoor USTFCCCA All-West Region honors.
- In 2023, the Cougars earned a combined five individual CCAA Championships, 19 All-CCAA selections, six outdoor and three indoor USTFCCCA All-West Region honorees under Olson's leadership.
- Olson came to CSUSM after spending three seasons as the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country at the Academy of Art University where his teams earned 50-plus All-American honors.
- Olson served as the head cross country coach for the previous three years at Academy of Art.
- In addition to the Academy of Art, Olson has also worked with the University of San Francisco and Pomona-Pitzer College.
- A graduate of Pomona College in 2009, Olson also holds an MFA from St. Mary's College (2012).
