HOW IT HAPPENED

  • On a Vargas-Rios corner kick from the right side in the fifth minute, he made a quick 10-yard pass to his left to Kommerling, who lofted a pass to Romera just in front of the CSUSM keeper and put the ball into the goal for an early 1-0 CSUMB lead.
  • After a Cougar handball in the box that led to a penalty kick, Kommerling earned his third point of the game with a shot to the right side and put the Otters on top at 2-0.
  • The Otters ended the first half with a 5-2 lead in shots.
  • CSUMB scored the game's third goal in the 87th minute. After Bedolla received an Otter goal kick off the head at midfield, the ball made its way to Romero, who dribbled the ball for 20 yards before taking a low shot at the top of the box that found its way into the center of the goal.
  • Less than a minute later, a very high kick from midfield by Hayes made its way to just in front of the goal where it hit the ground and touched the crossbar before Bedolla put the rebound into the net for the Otters' fourth and final goal.
