CSUSM Battles to Scoreless Draw Against CSUMB

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team (4-3-5, 0-3-2 CCAA) battled to a 0-0 draw against Cal State Monterey Bay (4-3-4, 1-2-2 CCAA) on Thursday at The Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Otters had the momentum in the first half, taking the advantage in shots (6-0), shots on goal (1-0) and corner kicks (1-0) but the Cougars had the edge in possession (51%-49%) as the period went scoreless
  • CSUSM turned the game on its head in the second half, outshooting CSUMB by a 12-6 margin with seven shots on goal, but neither side was able to score the put-away goal.

  • CSUSM and CSUMB each tallied 12 shots and four corner kicks for the game while the Cougars had more shots on goal at 7-3.
  • Ryan Meinardus led CSUSM with three shots in 71 minutes.
  • The Cougars had possession for 52% of the game.
  • This was the first scoreless draw in the all-time series between the Cougars and Otters and it was just the second tie between the two programs. CSUSM and CSUMB settled for a 3-3 draw in Seaside in 2019.
