No. 23 CSUSM Remains Unbeaten with Scoreless Draw at CSUEB

HAYWARD, Calif. – The No. 23 Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team (4-0-3) remained unbeaten with a scoreless draw in its non-conference finale at Cal State East Bay (1-4-1) on Saturday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Scoreless after 45 minutes, the Pioneers outshot the Cougars by a 6-1 margin in the first half, putting three shots on goal. Oli Barrosa had the lone shot for CSUSM while keeper Tony Flores made two saves.
  • CSUSM had possession for 55% of the first period.
  • The Cougars put two of their four second-half shots on goal, but neither side found the back of the net in the final 45 minutes.

  • CSUSM's seven-game unbeaten streak to begin the year is the longest for the team in the NCAA Division II era (2015-present). The Cougars previously won six straight games to begin the 2018 season until suffering a loss.
  • The Pioneers led the way in shots (8-5) and shots on goal (4-2) while the Cougars had more corner kicks (5-3) and total possession (57%-43%).
  • This was CSUSM's second consecutive draw, tying Westmont 2-2 last Saturday.
  • This was also the second straight draw between the Cougars and Pioneers as they tied 1-1 last season in Hayward.
