Ruiz Named FloCollege/CCAA Offensive Player of the Week
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Cal State San Marcos' David Ruiz has been selected as the FloCollege/CCAA Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for Sept. 22-28.
Ruiz scored three goals to help lead CSUSM to a win over Concordia and a tie against No. 7 Cal State San Bernardino before heading into conference play.
The junior forward had two goals, including the last-second game-winner at Concordia. His first goal was in the 60th minute, before giving the Cougars the win with a last-second buzzer beater for his second goal. Ruiz added another goal in the 2-2 draw against No. 7 Cal State San Bernardino, in a non-conference match.
The goals move Ruiz into a tie for fifth place in the conference with 0.50 goals per match. He is also seventh in points per game (1.17) and fourth in total goals (3). Click here to see the complete CCAA stats leaders
This is the first career CCAA Player of the Week award for Ruiz and the first for the Cal State San Marcos program since the start of the 2024 season (Ryan Meinardus). Click here to see a complete list of past award winners.
The Cougars will go on the road to open CCAA play this week. It will open at Cal Poly Humboldt on Friday, Oct. 3, before playing at Chico State on Sunday, Oct. 5. Both matches will be available on FloCollege.
