Cougars Ready for CCAA Tournament Debut at Chico State

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team (7-7-4) will make its CCAA Tournament debut as the fifth seed and will take on No. 11 and fourth-seeded Chico State (11-1-6) in the first round on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. at University Soccer Stadium in Chico.
 
LAST GAME

  • The Cougars clinched their first CCAA Tournament berth in program history with a 1-1 draw in the regular-season finale at Cal State East Bay on Thursday.
  • After an early CSUSM mishap that led to the Pioneers taking a 1-0 lead, the Cougars rallied just four minutes into the second half with a goal by Aaron Alvarez to knot at its final result of 1-1.
  • With the draw, CSUSM earned its 15th point of the season.
  • After entering the day tied for fifth with Cal State San Bernardino, the Yotes lost their regular-season finale to Cal Poly Pomona. This allowed the Cougars to overtake the Yotes in the CCAA standings and clinch the No. 5 seed.

CCAA TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND AT CHICO STATE

  • The Cougars return to Chico after a scoreless draw against the then-No. 2 Wildcats on Oct. 1.
  • Chico ended the season with a 1-1 draw against Stanislaus State on Thursday.
  • The Wildcats posted 1-1 draws in three of their final four regular-season games.
