CSUSM Stumbles on the Road at No. 5 CSUEB
HAYWARD, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team (9-7, 6-5 CCAA) suffered an 87-70 loss to undefeated No. 5 Cal State East Bay (17-0, 11-0 CCAA) on Thursday night at Pioneer Gym.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cal State East Bay opened the game with a 7-0 run as CSUSM went scoreless in the first three minutes, but a Chris Carrillo pull-up jumper finally put the Cougars on the board at the 15:48 mark.
- The Pioneers maintained a lead of at least five points for 17 minutes of the half, taking their largest lead at 24-12 on a Matt Williams 3-pointer with 9:27 to play.
- CSUSM trailed 42-33 at halftime after shooting 40.0% (10-of-25) from the field, while East Bay shot 51.6% (16-of-31). Carrillo led all scorers with 13 points after going 3-of-3 from the field and 7-of-7 from the charity stripe.
- Jaylin Leslie and Max Tengan combined to open the second half with free throws and a jumper to keep the Cougars within single digits early at 45-38 with 17:56 to play.
- After Jalen Foy made a basket and a free throw, East Bay took a double-digit lead for good at 55-45 with 14:04 remaining.
- In the final minute of the game, the Pioneers took their largest lead of the game at 87-65 on an Ipreye Egbe fastbreak layup.
