CSUSM Takes Exhibition Loss at UC Riverside
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – In its first exhibition of the 2024-25 season, the Cal State San Marcos men's basketball fell 89-61 at UC Riverside on Friday night at SRC Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Following a Dexter Stratton layup for the Cougars' first points of the game to make it 3-2, the Highlanders went on an 11-0 run to make it 14-2 at the 14:56 mark of the period.
- Trailing 44-20, CSUSM posted its best run of the game with seven unanswered points on a jumper from Stratton, a 3-pointer by Donovan Watkins and two good free throws by Stratton to make it 44-27 with 2:58 to go in the first half.
- With a half in the books, CSUSM trailed 52-30. The Cougars shot 41.7% (10-of-24) from the field while the Highlanders shot 52.6% (20-38).
- Dexter Stratton led the Cougars with 12 points in the first 20 minutes.
- CSUSM's best run of the second half was a 6-0 run thanks to a pair of free throws by Stratton and Uriah Foster, a fast-break layup by Myles Harvey and a layup off a turnover by Foster to make it 72-48 with 6:45 to go.
- UCR took its largest lead of the game in the second half, going up 83-48 with 3:52 to play.
- The Highlanders outscored the Cougar 37-31 in the second half, shooting 44.1% (15-of-34) to CSUSM's 32.3% (10-of-31).
FAST BREAKS
- This was the first-ever meeting of any type between CSUSM and UCR.
- The Highlanders led the game wire-to-wire.
- CSUSM ended the game shooting 36.4% (20-of-55) while UCR clocked in at 48.6% (35-of-72).
- UCR had the edge in rebounds (43-27), assists (17-13) and steals (7-5) while CSUSM had more blocked shots (2-1).
- The Cougars scored 17 points from the charity stripe on 25 attempts (68%).
- CSUSM had eight fast-break points while UCR didn't have any.
