CSUSM Celebrates Senior Day with 72-67 Win Against CSUMB
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – In its home finale, the Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team (6-20, 6-14 CCAA) posted a 72-67 win over Cal State Monterey Bay (6-19, 3-17 CCAA) on Saturday at The Sports Center.
Prior to the game, CSUSM celebrated Senior Day by honoring Uriah Foster and Donovan Watkins.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUSM took its largest lead of the first half on a Donovan Watkins second-chance jumper to make it 14-8 with 11:05 to go.
- Down 17-11, the Otters went on a 7-0 run and took an 18-17 lead on a Michael Mora layup with 7:34 left in the period.
- With 2:39 remaining in the half, a second-chance layup by Joey Bilello gave CSUMB its largest lead of the period at 30-26.
- The Cougars retook the lead at 31-30 on a second-chance layup by Watkins with 1:27 to go in the half.
- Tied at 35 at halftime, CSUSM shot 45.5% (15-of-33) from the field while CSUMB was slightly better at 48.1% (13-of-27).
- The first half featured seven lead changes and six ties.
- The Otters built a 40-35 lead to begin the second half on a Chol Deng jumper and Jaden Tengan 3-pointer at the 18:36 mark.
- A 6-0 run put CSUSM back on top momentarily at 41-40 after a Micah Boone lay-up with 16:26 to go.
- Watkins drained a 3-pointer to give the Cougars a 51-46 lead with 11:42 to go.
- The Otters took their final lead of the game on a Blake Jones layup to make it 54-53 with 10:12 left.
- CSUSM then went on a 12-0 run to take its largest lead of the game at 65-54 after Watkins hit another 3-pointer with 5:43 remaining.
- CSUMB began whittling away at CSUSM's lead, trimming the deficit down to three at 70-67 with eight seconds to play, but a pair of free throws by Keavie Love sealed the game.
FAST BREAKS
- CSUSM ended the game shooting 40.7% (24-of-59) from the field while CSUMB shot 45.8% (27-of-59). The Cougars also shot 50% (9-of-18) from beyond the arc.
- The Cougars scored 17 points off turnovers to the Otters' nine.
- CSUSM tallied 16 second-chance points to CSUMB's nine.
- The Cougars won the rebound battle at 41-29 while the Otters had more assists (9-7) and blocks (3-1). Both sides recorded five steals and 14 turnovers.
- Watkins' career-high 27 points were the most by a Cougar this season.
- Foster's 18 career-high rebounds tied for the third-most in a single game in program history.
- The game featured 13 lead changes and seven ties.
- CSUSM was on top for 25:28 while CSUMB had the lead for 10:55.
