CSUSM Settles for Series Split with No. 24 CSUMB
SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (21-18, 16-14 CCAA) had to settle for a series split with No. 24 Cal State Monterey Bay (27-14, 20-12 CCAA) after falling 13-4 in the series finale on Saturday at the Otter Sports Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Otters jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run homer from Evan Stauch.
- A leadoff homer from Phoenix Sommay in the top of the fourth cut the Cougars' deficit in half to 2-1.
- A CSUSM throwing error and an RBI single by Stauch led to two more runs for CSUMB as they took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth.
- Fisher Pyatt hit a leadoff homer for the Cougars in the top of the sixth before Garrett Teunissen collected an RBI on a groundout to make it 4-3.
- Another Cougar throwing error, an RBI groundout and an RBI single from Stauch put the Otters up 8-3 in the bottom of the sixth.
- CSUMB scored four runs in consecutive at-bats in the bottom of the seventh on RBI singles by Jacob Dressler and KW Quilici, a sacrifice fly by Stauch and an RBI double by Javier Felix to up the lead to 12-3.
- The Otters tacked on their final run in the bottom of the eighth on a one-out solo shot from Noah Zertuche to make it 13-3.
- The Cougars were able to muster one more run on a sacrifice fly by Mateo Lake in the top of the ninth, but a groundout immediately after ended the game.

- Otter starter Mitchell Torres (3-1) earned the win after striking out seven while allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk in 6.0 innings.
- Cougars starter Jordan Townley (4-4) took the loss after allowing two earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three in 4.0 innings.
- Sommay's homer was his fourth of the year while Pyatt's was his third.
- This was the third consecutive series split between the Cougars and Otters in Seaside.
- CSUSM concludes the weekend sixth in the CCAA standings with two series to go.
