CSUSM Sweeps Series-Opening Doubleheader Against Sonoma State
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (19-11, 18-7 CCAA) took care of business as it swept its doubleheader against Sonoma State (14-18, 8-14 CCAA) by scores of 11-9 and 23-7 on Saturday at CSUSM Baseball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- SSU took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first with an RBI double by Kenny Decelle and a CSUSM throwing error that scored him.
- A solo shot by Ku halved the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the third.
- CSUSM went up 6-2 in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double by Sommay, an RBI groundout by Teunissen, an RBI double by Reece and a two-run homer by Mahaffy.
- The Cougars took a 9-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth on an error that scored Bradley Chesterton and a two-run double by Reece.
- CSUSM's final two runs came on a two-run single by Sommay to give the Cougars an 11-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh.
- SSU cut the deficit to 11-4 in the top of the eighth with a pair of RBI singles by Mark Hernandez and Chris Ortiz.
- The Seawolves made a game of it in the top of the ninth with an RBI double by Christopher Wright, a two-run homer by Jared Esparza and another two-run homer by Braeden Holliday to cut the deficit to 11-9.
- With one out to go, Preston Kelly came on and earned his fifth save of the season with just two pitches to give the Cougars the win.

- SSU cut the deficit to 4-1 in the top of the third with a sac fly by Braden Holliday.
- A two-run shot by McGrew gave the Cougars a 6-1 lead in the bottom of the third.
- In the top of the fifth, a two-run blast by SSU's Christopher Wright made it a 6-3 game.
- A bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to Sommay and a bases-clearing double by Teunissen put CSUSM up 10-3 in the bottom of the fifth.
- The Seawolves gnawed into the Cougars' lead in the top of the sixth with a pair of RBI singles by Shane Callison and Kenny Decelle and a bases-loaded walk by Mark Hernandez to make it 10-6.
- The Cougars took a 16-6 lead in the bottom of the sixth with a solo shot by Reece, a two-run double by Cedillo and a three-run bomb by Ku.
